When we begin working with a new client, the first activity we do together is get clarity on why they want to change. Why do they want to work with us? Why do they want to make these lifestyle changes? After they get clarity on their emotional reasons, we encourage them to write them down on a 3×5 inch index card (along with two or three affirmations), carry the card with them, and read it throughout the day, starting in the morning right after they wake up.
Teaching You How to Create and Sustain New Habits
Creating new habits so that they stick can be challenging. Our current habits have been ingrained in our subconscious for years. Most of the time we don’t need to think about pressing the gas pedal in our car to accelerate. In order to change our habits, we have to change our subconscious thoughts. One way to do this is through affirmations. A health coach can help you create effective affirmations to help you transition into a healthier lifestyle. Add them to the back of the 3×5 index card with your “Why?” on it so that they are always with you and you can read them throughout the day.
